What’s worth seeing in Porto Seguro?

Located in region of Bahia a city of Porto Seguro each year is fascinating tourists from around the world with its outstanding beaches, exquisite food and marvellous nature. That city has also non-trivial meaning for history of South America, as it was there were first ships of colonizers from Europe docked.

Modern Brazil, centuries ago described as Terra de Vera Cruz, was discovered on 22nd April of 1500 by Portuguese sailors under the command of Pedro Álvares Cabrala. That place was named as Porto Seguro and joined to the Kingdom of Portugal. In the region of located on the hill Old Town (Cidade Alta) one can still admire almost 40 restored residential buildings from colonization period and three historic churches, among them dated back to the 18th century church of Nossa Senhora da Penha Matrix at Pero de Campos Tourinho. By the beach in the north of the city you can see a replica of ship of discoverers of the city.

What Porto Seguro is famous for, though, is perfect weather and delightful beaches with white, velvet sand. 
Praia do Espelho Curuípe is considered one of the most beautiful seaside location in the whole Brazil. Staying there, make sure to look after sloths that would definitely be napping somewhere in the shadow of coconut trees. Lovers of nature definitely will like preserved area of Mata Atlântica, tropical jungle with marshy areas, rocky slopes and abundant exotic plants.

Traditional dishes of region Bahia are acarajé (fried on deep fat balls from bean pie), moqueca (stew from fishes and seafood with coconut milk) vatapá (purée from crayfish, fish, cashews, nuts, coconut milk) caruru (dish based on shrimps and okra), xinxim de galinha (stewed chicken sticks with shrimps and nuts) and bobó de camarão (cream from manioc with shrimps and coconut milk). It is worth to try them, among others, in  Boiteko, eatery d'Oliveira or Rosa dos Ventos.
