Tasty, cheap, big – such are dishes in Jorginho Lanches at Rua Pascoal Meller. It is also a great option if you are in hurry. We especially recommend cheeseburger deluxe.

What’s worth seeing in Criciuma?

Criciuma is a Brazilian city in Santa Catarina state, established on 6th January of 1880 by immigrants from Italy. Just a decade later they were joined by immigrants from Poland and Germany.

When is it worth to go to Criciuma? During year there are a few festivals taking place there, which drag in people to common fun on streets. Local feasts are the best attraction of the city. In February there is organized there Carnaval de Rua, a few days party, that fills street with dance and music. The festival is accompanied by, among others, contest for Queen and King of Carnaval. Tradition has started in 1980.

Whereas September means Festa das Etnias -a festival of ethnic groups who colonized Criciuma – apart from Italian, Polish and German culture, there are also dance shows, singing or traditional cuisine of Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and African origin. The party lasts for the whole week, in a park and the entrance is free.

A bit different are celebrations to honour Saint Barbara, which are taking place always on the 4th of December. Everything starts in a church. Then a procession with Saint Barbara painting moves through the city. After another mass, dancing and partying starts.

One of the most important buildings on the city is Casa da Cultura Neusa Nunes Vieira at Nereu Ramos square, which was opened in the beginning of 40’s of the 20th century as a town hall. Nowadays it serves as premises for an urban archive and an art gallery. Take a look at the cathedral São José which is near, at the same square. Its construction started in 1907 and took a decade. It is one of the oldest churches in the city.

Do you fancy a history lesson? Step by Museu de Colonização Augusto Casagrande opened in 1980 as part of celebration of 100 years anniversary of the city. The museum is located in a typical, Italian town house in the city’s centre. You will see there archive photos, documents, furniture, household appliance or tools used by Italian immigrants on the verge of the 19th and 20th centuries.
