Saint Peter Port is the capital of Guernsey – an island in the English Channel, off the coast of Normandy. Guernsey is a part of a Crown dependency which means that formally it is not sovereign state of the Commonwealth but in reality, it is subject to it. The port itself is a small town with no more than 20.000 citizens.
The city is located in the eastern part of the island, right on the shore of the ocean and is called one of the most beautiful ports in Europe. Marina, which you will surely be charmed with, invites you to take a walk and lots of photos. A unique atmosphere is created by cobbled streets and historic gardens. Among them, the most impressive is the Victorian Candie Gardens on Candie Road.
The surrounding area invites to spending time outdoors, especially doing water sports. Numerous rental offices offer mainly kayaks, but also other equipment. You can also take a boat trip (there are plenty organized in the area) during which you’ll be able to admire beautiful animals – seals and various species of birds. Want some more? About 4 kilometers from the city, at La Planque Lane, you'll find the headquarters of the Guernsey Aviation Club, where flying lessons are organized. You can choose an hour or one-day lesson – it’s a great opportunity to admire the beaches of Normandy from a bird’s eye view!
