As we have mentioned before, Cheektowaga is surrounded by the beautiful nature. For example, Chestnut Ridge Park, located in the 15-kilometre distance, has a small waterfall called Eternal Flame Falls.
The source of the city's name comes from the language of the Erie-Seneca Indians. And what exactly does it mean? Cheektowaga is a literal translation of the land overgrown with wild apple trees.
During your visit to Cheektowaga, visiting Niagara - one of the world’s most famous waterfalls is a must. The fifty metres high cascades can be found less than thirty kilometres away from the city.
Cheektowaga is a small American town with less than ninety thousand inhabitants. It is located in Erie County, in the State of New York. There is an Erie Lake nearby, and Lake Ontario a bit further. Interestingly, people of Polish descent are the largest (almost forty percent) minority living in Cheektowaga.
In the distance of about thirty kilometres from the city, there is a Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, an area that is under special protection. Of course, you cannot hunt or fish here, but you can walk on the dedicated paths and even camp here with special permission. There is also another area nearby, Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, which we also strongly recommend. The area is worth a trip, nature is breath-taking, and the photos taken here will certainly impress others and will be a great souvenir.
If you get hungry while visiting Cheektowaga, you will surely find something for yourself, no matter what tastes you prefer. Those who like Asian cuisine, especially the Japanese one, should definitely visit Teton Kitchen, located on Dick Road 415. For Italian cuisine lovers, we recommend visiting the Olive Garden on Walden Avenue 2011, known especially for its excellent pasta.
If, however, you are the person that thinks that getting to know the culture of a place should start with trying out local dishes, we can recommend you at least two places. One of the most popular restaurants specializing in American cuisine is the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant on the Store P102 Galleria Drive, where you can try delicious food with a sip of good beer, all at a very reasonable price. Jack Astor’s Bar & Grill is also worth visiting. It is located at the Walden Avenue 2000.
