Fans of history surely won’t forget a visit at Koldinghus, which is the last Jutland castle and a nearby town Christanfeld, that looks almost the same as 250 years ago.
A small town in Danish region Jutland, specializing in attractions for families with kids. Though in short distance from an airport not only very interesting amusement parks are located. What else is worth seeing there?
Nowadays, the neighbourhood of Billund is mainly known thanks to amusement parks such as Legoland or aquapark Laland. This place was chosen not without a reason – it was in that region where Ole Kirk Christiansen established a company producing toys, including famous small bricks, which have been in sale since 1949. Both amusement parks are located close to the airport – some available attractions can be seen upon leaving terminal. Is it worth to visit them? Definitely yes, especially if you have kids. In the first park on the area of 140 000 square metres you will wind Lego-themed merry-go-rounds, rollercoasters, pirate ships or haunted house, in the second one you can go crazy playing in the water.
While staying in Billund, it is worth to rent a car to reach other interesting places that are located a bit further. A must see is Safari Givskud, not a typical Zoo, where animals can freely walk on its whole area. What’s important to mention – you can watch them only from car. If you want to get to know history of that land, go to a Danish town Ribe, which is located an hour drive from Billund. This place is more than 1300 years old and will astonish you with historical old town and the oldest in the country cathedral, as well as Ribe Viking Center, a Vikings’ village, where you will find out how this Northern tribe used to live like centuries ago.
If you like culinary journeys, surely you would want to try traditional Danish dishes. What to look for in menu? Definitely things like: frikadeller, meatballs served with potatoes and sauce, medisterpølse – fried white sausage, varm leverpostej med bacon, warm pâté with fried bacon and mushrooms and pork chop baked with skin, which is flæskesteg. Danish people love coffee, which has to be served with something sweet, like apple pie or cookies. Where to eat? Regional tastes you will find in Refborg Spiseri, Filskov Kro, as well as in Hovborg Kro.
